Our Program

The mission of the Bridgeway Transition Program is to provide support, resources, and guidance to post secondary students with learning differences as they transition to higher educational and vocational opportunities.   Students are taught skills, tools and processes needed to maximize success and overcome learning challenges which assures the completion of their academic program.

Students enrolled in community colleges, four-year colleges, technical schools and vocational programs are eligible to apply.

Components of the program include:

Academic Specialist.  Students enrolled in Bridgeway work closely with an Academic Specialist throughout the year.  Each week, the student is required to meet with their Specialist.  Topics addressed include time management, long term planning, goal setting, organizing class materials and working with the appropriate Disability Resource Centers to ensure accommodations are met.

Weekly Tutoring.  One-on-one tutoring is offered to students to meet their individual class needs.  Small group tutoring is also available by subject area for Bridgeway students enrolled in the same course.  Our certified tutors follow the same format during each session to increase productivity and establish a routine.  Tutors support students with studying for tests, editing essays and creating study plans.

Success  Workshops.  Bridgeway students are required to attend workshops throughout the school year that focus on specific areas that are key to a students’ success.  Workshops are one hour and are taught by Academic Specialists that understand the tools needed to achieve the greatest results.

Social Events.  Students are encouraged to take learning outside of the classroom. Bridgeway contributes to the educational experience by providing many opportunities outside of the school day.  The social calendar is packed with activities throughout the year to keep students connected and engaged in a positive way.  The friendships and experiences Bridgeway students create are an important part of being a young adult in college.

Weekly Class.   On Course, a semester-long class is required for all first-year Bridgeway students.  Students will meet for one hour each week to develop and strengthen their academic and organizational skills.  Topics include taking notes, preparing for tests, writing essays and research papers, and maintaining an organized system for classwork.  All students will take an active role in creating their educational plans.
